7 easy tips for staying fit and healthy whilst traveling for business

Staying in shape whilst travelling for business can be tough. Your routine is disrupted, and this can lead to you neglecting your health and fitness. Hours spent on planes, hectic schedules and long days can all place stress on your mind and body, impacting your wellbeing. Here’s seven top tops for staying fit and healthy whilst travelling for business…

Keep active

Implementing a regular exercise regime is essential if you want to keep fit and stay healthy whilst away on business. Exercise can also relieve stress and boost your immune system. Make sure you pack your trainers or swimsuit, so you can go for a run or a swim in the hotel pool in your spare time.

Eat Healthily

Many people find it difficult to stick to a healthy diet whilst travelling for business, often turning to fast food to keep their energy levels up whilst on the go. However, this can leave you feeling tired and sluggish, reducing your productivity. Try to have at least one healthy meal per day, whether it’s cooked by you in your apartment kitchen or in a hotel restaurant.

Drink enough water

Not drinking adequate water can lead to headaches and tiredness, as well as many other symptoms. Drink as much water as possible, within moderation. Traveling with a reusable bottle will allow you to fill it up and stay hydrated throughout the day, ensuring you stay feeling your best.

Get plenty of sleep

Travelling for business is tiring, and so you need your rest. If you’re getting less than six hours per night whilst away and you have a busy schedule, you’re likely to flag throughout the day. Try to get around eight hours per night to ensure your body and mind are fully rested.

Practice good hygiene

Maintaining proper hygiene whilst travelling is a challenge, whether you’re taking the train or travelling by plane. There are hundreds of other people who might be coughing or sneezing and spreading various forms of bacteria. Public transport really is one of the most unhygienic environments, so it makes sense to wash your hands frequently. You may also want to pack a small bottle of hand sanitiser.

Maintain a regular routine

Even though you’re travelling, do your best to stick to your normal routine as much as possible. This will make you feel more comfortable in your new surroundings, whilst also helping to prevent illness. Plus, when you get back home, you’ll find slipping into your regular routine much easier. Try to go to bed, eat dinner and exercise at the same time of the day as you would back home.

Manage Stress

Travelling for business can be stressful, particularly if there’s a lot at stake, such as an important deal you want to tie up. However, too much stress can leave you feeling tired and tense, and it can also result in you catching colds and infections more easily. You need to limit stress as best you can. One way to do this to make a checklist of everything you need whilst you’re away so that you feel fully prepared.

Staying fit and healthy whilst away on business can be difficult, but with a little foresight and preparation, you can do it. Hopefully these tips have provided some insight into how you can stay in great shape whilst you’re away from home.
